This is no single way to make a great website, so I thought I would use this blog to give many examples of different website ideas. But for this first post I thought I would just share a little bit about myself and where I am coming from with respect to website building and marketing.
I have been building websites for 9 years now and have learn much along that journey. I started out building very simple html websites for products, and stayed true to straight html for almost 4 years. As soon as I discovered all of the advantages to using databases I was hooked and haven’t built an html site since.
My first database driven site was a shopping cart built with ASP and an access database. To this day I love access but have moved on from ASP to PHP. Almost every website I build today is either based on Joomla or WordPress. I love both of those scripts more than should be allowed. Okay I’m not crazy but they are the two finest scripts I have ever seen, and both are getting better all the time.
Since the use of Joomla and WordPress is so prevalent in my sites the actual building of the sites is really the easiest part of this whole online journey. Over all of these years building websites I have learned lots of things not to do, but I have also learned what to do to promote my sites. Hopefully that knowledge will come in handy to all of the people who visit this modest blog.
I don’t sell the roads to riches ebook, or any other crap that people don’t need to waste their money on. I try my best to give solid advice and help as many people as I can. I have learned that the people I can help are people who are willing to learn and help themselves. Most of the people who ask for advice or visit my site don’t ever take the steps necessary to succeed. They are the dreamers with the never ending dream.
But hopefully if you got all the way through that short article, you will come back to visit this site in the future and will feel free to ask questions. But more importantly be willing to help yourself. An online business takes just as much work to succeed at as an offline business.
Here’s to your success and hoping you will find your way back here to learn how to make a website.
